From the airports to Moscow city

Several options exist for transport from Moscow airports Sheremeyevo II and Domodedovo to the city. Please go to http://www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru and http://www.domodedovo.ru, respectively. The cheapest way is to take a bus or the train.

A taxi from the airports to the city center is convenient, but expensive. A trip could cost you EURO 50 or even more.

Important: like other big cities, Moscow is not free from the problem of thieves and pickpockets. Please watch your belongings carefully, also in metro, buses, trains and trams.

Reaching the RAS by local public transport

When arriving in Moscow city, the best way to reach the RAS (conference site) is to take the subway (metro) "orange line", exit at the station "Leninskii Prospekt" (south direction). Get off at this station and walk across the Leninskii ave. approximately 500 meters to the RAS bldg. (Prezidium Akademii Nauk).

The RAS surroundings, including the metro station "Leninskii Prospekt" is shown on the map.

Social Program

The social program of ICHEP'06 consists of the following elements: a welcome reception, a concert, excursions, a conference dinner and post conference tours.

Welcome Reception

A welcome reception will be held for all participants and accompanying persons in the RAS bldg. on Thursday, July 27 at 19:00 o'clock.

Concert

On Monday, July 31 a concert will be held in the Main Conference Hall in the RAS. Admission for all participants and accompanying persons is free. The concert starts at 19:00 and will finish at approximately 21:00 o'clock. The program of the concert will be announced later.

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner (banquet) will be held on Tuesday, August 1 in the restaurant of the Moscow Expo-Center. The dinner will start at 19:00 o'clock. It is nicely located in the center of Moscow city.

For registered conference participants, the price of the dinner is only EUR 20, for an accompanying person EUR 40. Depending on availability, the tickets for the dinner will be for sale at the Registration Desk during the registration or at any other time before Monday, July 31.

The address of the Moscow Expo-Center for the dinner is Krasnopresnenskaya nab.,14, Moscow. The transportation to the banquet will be arranged by the organizers.

Excursions

On Sunday July 30 no scientific sessions are foreseen. Instead, a number of excursions are organized for ICHEP'06 participants and accompanying persons. If you have not yet signed up for the excursions via web page, you may still do so upon your coming to RAS for the registration.

Pre-purchased tickets and the information about the excursions will be enclosed in the package that you will receive upon registration. Subject to availability, the additional tickets may be purchased at the Social Desk in the Registration Area. Tickets are not reimbursable should a registrant not be able to take part. As for the lunch, it may be included, except for afternoon-only tours. Tours are subject to cancellation due to insufficient interest or unforeseen circumstances.

The post-conference tours are also available, and the list of tours is allocated on the web page.

Accompanying Persons Program

Accompanying persons are welcome to join. For accompanying persons, a number of excursions are organized. Apart from these, of course, the whole Moscow city as well as many nearby towns and villages are to be explored on one's own.

Emergencies

Within the RAS, a first aid room is located in the Registration Area. At any emergency within the RAS, please contact the Registration Desk.

The general emergency telephone number in Russia is 112. This will connect you to an operator who will alarm miliciya (police), medical aid or the fire brigade. Miliciya (police) can be contacted for any urgent matters via the number 02.

Other Conference Information

Registration

If you have received an invitation to ICHEP'06 but have not yet registered, please do so as soon as possible. Registration is possible via our web site.

If you have not yet booked accommodation, please do so as well. Hotel information can be also found on our web site.

And finally, if you need a visa, please contact the organizers as soon as possible. Visa information can be found in our web site. Please note that visa requests are generally not honored by Russian authorities if submitted later than two months before the Conference!

All participants and accompanying persons will receive a personal badge upon registration.

For security reasons, you are kindly requested to wear your name badge when attending any meeting or social gathering.

Only participants who are wearing their name badge will be admitted to lecture halls.

Proceedings

Proceedings of ICHEP'06 will be published by World Scientific (Singapore). All the participants will receive a copy of the proceedings. All speakers are expected to contribute to the proceedings; further instructions will be given at the later stage.

E-mail and Internet

A special hall in the RAS will be available as an Internet hall (no coffee served). The organizers will provide about 50 fixed PC's running Windows and an ssh application installed. There will be a printer for paper (not for transparancies!) available as well.

We encourage you to bring your laptop: we will provide about 30 10baseT cables to connect to your laptop computer. Moreover, we will set up a few base stations for wireless access, which will only work in and near the Internet hall.

To read/write e-mail you can connect to your home institution via ssh.

Coffee, Tea, Lunch

During session breaks, coffee and tea will be served free of charge to participants wearing name badges.

Lunch is not included in the registration fee. The organizers can provide the participants with the lunch tickets by the low rate cost upon their on-site registration. However, various catering points will be available within the RAS bldg. Should one wish to lunch outside the RAS venue, there is a number of cafe, restaurants within close vicinity.

Presentation Display

Electronic display of presentations (PowerPoint, PDF) is strongly encouraged. Speakers wishing to display their presentation electronically are requested to visit the Presentation Preview Desk in the Registration Area well in advance of the session in which they are scheduled to speak. It may be done just after the on-site registration (Registration Desk). In the Presentation Preview Desk, presentations are copied to the conference PC from which they will be displayed. Speakers are not allowed to bring their own laptop to the stage for display of their presentations.

Opening time of the Presentation Preview Desk is identical to that of the Registration Desk.

Messages

Messages for participants can be left in the Registration Area.

Luggage Storage

Staff

The ICHEP'06 staff can be recognized by their ICHEP'06 shirts with their wearing name badges. All the staff will always be happy to assist you.

Currency

The official currency in the Russian Federation is the RUBLE. Foreign currencies can be exchanged to rubles at many locations, including the airports, railway stations, metro stations, and in the city. The official exchange rates are (approximately): EUR 1 = 34 rubles, USD 1 = 27 rubles.

Sponsors and Exhibitors

ICHEP'06 is sponsored by the following institutions:

International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP)
Russian Academy of Sciences
Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna)
Russian Foundation for Basic Research
Moscow State University

Public Transport

Public transport in Moscow is carried out by metro (subway), buses, trams and trains. Within the large area of Moscow city these modes of transportation have non-identical fare-system. Moscow airports are not within the city limits, and normal train or bus tickets are required for travel to and from the airports. In buses and trams there are no identical fare system as well. The tickets can be bought from the conductor, or in newspaper kiosks in advance. In metro (subway) and the trains the tickets can be bought in cash office (counters) directly at each station.

Public transport runs until (just after) midnight. After that there are taxies.

Additional Information

Participants are requested to make their own arrangements in respect of health and travel insurance.

In most Russian restaurants, service charges are included in the bill. If you approve the service good enough to warrant a tip, a couple of dozens of rubles will be appreciated.

Numerous taxi stands are located throughout Moscow city.

Most shops in Moscow are open from 10:00 to 19:00, Monday through Saturday. Shops in the center are also open on Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00.
